Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior official stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
